Overview
This project consisted of selective demolition and renovation of a historic building in New York's Letchworth State Park. The majority of the work involved the removal and refurbishment/replacement of the roofing, gutters, fascia, and wood trim on the entire inn. Portions of the roof were asbestos containing and the paint on the gutters and trim contained lead. Other work on the interior included extensive work in the attic to install new ventilation fan, fire alarm controls and occupancy sensor controls for all bathrooms on the upper level.
Selective demolition in some areas exposed extensive structural issues that were evaluated, secured and repaired. The most significant of the challenges was the schedule, which only allowed for work during the winter when the Inn was closed to the public. In addition, substantial fencing, shoring, barricades and scaffolding were required to protect historic building components and landscaping and to secure the jobsite from the public in one of the most heavily visited public parks in the nation.
